“You could grease the cupcake pan.” At Constance’s orders, Darcy got up from her seat and opened the refrigerator door, grabbing the butter. Once she started greasing the cupcake pan, the petite brunette smiled at Constance. “Well, first off, thanks for not kicking me out. I’ve been pretty lonely lately and I could use a woman like you around.” She started to grease the pan and noticed the smile playing on the older woman’s face.
“Well, I guess the biggest thing that’s been on my mind is a certain boy.” Darcy teased, feeling the familiar bubble of excitement she would get when she’d talk to her mother about boys.
“Well, first off, thanks for not kicking me out. I’ve been pretty lonely lately and I could use a woman like you around.” Constance felt a twinge at her heart. Someone who understood her loneliness. Someone who needed her and her life experiences. Sure, she had Michael, but it was different with boys. They didn’t want to share their feelings. And there was only so much help Constance could give to Alice because the poor girl would be seventeen forever. “I’ll let you in on a little secret, Darcy. I’ve been pretty lonely, too. You’re welcome here anytime.” She paused in her stirring and looked back at the girl. “We can keep each other company.” She gave a wink as she brought the batter over to the kitchen table and began pouring it into the greased pan.
Her eyebrows rose at Darcy’s revelation. “A boy?” Constance said teasingly, her voice carrying the hint of a laugh. “Well, tell me all about him!” She hadn’t had much experience in this topic of conversation. All hope of that was lost when Addie was born. But Darcy was making it surprisingly easy for Constance.

CATS :O
Yes ma’am. In 20 years, Rachel is going to have 9 cats and I’m going to have a gay husband named Jeffrey.
How do you know his name is going to be Jeffrey? .-.
& Can I live with Rachel and her cats? :3
I just gave him the name Jeffrey. It sort of just happened…haha I’ll call him Jeffrey whether that’s his name or not! OMG LIVE WITH RACHEL. The more people, the better! One cat’s name will be Muffin. She will have a rhinestone collar and speak with a British accent and recite Shakespeare to us. (We decided Rachel should teach the cats to talk so she doesn’t get lonely.)

It involves cats and dinner theater and 1920’s music and gay ‘husbands’ and me and Brigid in 20 years. It’s so relevant.
SO relevant since in 20 years, we’ll all still be in this rp. <3

Darcy smiled and took a seat by the kitchen table. “I’m not thirsty but thank you.” When Constance asked if she’d stay for a cupcake, the girl blushed slightly and smiled. “I don’t want to bother you but if you’re okay with it, I’d love to. I could use a woman’s company.” She kind of looked up to Constance in a way. She’d never met either of her grandmothers; they’d both died before she was even a young child. “Is there anything I can help you with?” Darcy asked shyly as she took in the old-fashioned kitchen.
Quickly and skillfully, Constance began adding the ingredients to the batter she had already started, eyeballing the measurements as always. “I could use a woman’s company.” She hid a smile at Darcy’s kind words. It was nice to feel needed. She looked around the room to see if there was anything Darcy could help out with. “Hmm…well, you could grease the cupcake pan. There’s butter in there.” She nodded her head in the direction of the fridge.
As she continued to stir the batter, Constance found herself swaying to the music. Having Darcy here was so much better than baking alone. It was almost like having Addie back. “Woman’s company, huh?” she said with a small smile. “Well, I am a woman. And a pretty worldly one at that. I’m open to whatever questions you may have. Fire away.”

Darcy quickly grabbed the rest of the things that had fallen out of Constance’s ripped bag and jogged to catch up to her. “I’m so sorry again Constance, I should have been watching where I was going.” Once the older woman had opened her door, she marched right in, leaving Darcy behind. The teenage girl sighed and went in after her. The house was small but it certainly fit Constance larger than life personality. She followed the woman into the kitchen and set the things down on the counter. “You’re house is really nice. It fits you.” She said with a sincere smile on her face, hoping that the comment would lighten Constance’s mood a bit.
Constance walked right into the house without even bothering to hold the door for Darcy or telling her to make herself at home. She knew it wasn’t the polite thing to do as a hostess, but she really didn’t like when her baking was interrupted. It was her only means of escape from this world. That and alcohol. When Constance baked, she transported herself anywhere else but here. To her grandmother’s kitchen in Virginia. To a time when Addie was here with her and insisted on licking the spoon.
But she could tell Darcy was trying. And it wasn’t exactly the girl’s fault that Constance had miscalculated her cupcake ingredients. She sighed. “Thank you,” she replied to Darcy’s compliment on her house. “You can set those things on the table. Can I get you something to drink?” she asked, remembering her hostess duties. She tied her apron around her waist and clicked the radio on. Smooth jazz filled the small kitchen. “You will stay for a cupcake, won’t you?”

Darcy had just gone to visit the animal shelter after being cooped up in the house all day trying to write a new song. It hadn’t clicked and she figured maybe if she got out of the house, something would hit her for inspiration. James had told her she should get a dog the first time they met and the young girl had been thinking about it for quite some time now. She’d never had a pet growing up and now that she was living alone with Jessie, it was the time to get a puppy. By the time she’d gotten to the animal shelter though, it was near closing time but she’d made an appointment to come in as early as she could the next day.
She felt her pocket buzz and she was just about to take her phone out when she bumped smack dab into someone. “Oh my god, I’m so sorry!” Darcy squeaked, bending over to pick up the woman’s things. Looking up she realized it was her neighbor, Constance.
Constance fumbled in her purse to find her house keys as she rounded the corner. Suddenly, she felt someone smack into her, causing her grocery bags to go flying everywhere. “Oh my god, I’m so sorry!” Constance rolled her eyes when she realized it was Darcy. Didn’t this girl ever look where she was going? Never mind that she hadn’t been paying attention either. Bending down with Darcy to gather up her things, Constance sighed and put it behind her. “Oh, never mind. I’m sort of in a hurry,” she explained grabbing a sack of flour. “I ran out of ingredients as I was making cupcakes so I had to run down to the Korean’s and pick up some things.” Once everything was back in the bag, she went to pick it up only to have it rip. “Shit. Would you grab some of these things and follow me back home?” Constance asked as she gather up what she could in her arms.
